Future Projects
TAAU works with communities and partner organisations to strengthen the response to arthritis. The presentation identifies four forward priorities: stronger member participation, better-informed communities, stronger organisational capacity, and partnerships that provide practical support.
Priorities going forward
Stronger member participation
Support members and cluster representatives to take active roles in TAAU and their communities.
Better-informed communities
Expand education on symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, self-management and myths about arthritis.
Stronger organisational capacity
Build leadership, governance, planning, resource mobilisation and accountability.
Partnerships and practical support
Strengthen collaboration with health professionals, hospitals, sponsors and community partners.
Core objectives
- Raise community awareness about arthritis and related conditions.
- Strengthen local and national coordination, planning, monitoring and networking for TAAU activities.
- Improve access to health-care services for people living with arthritis.
- Mobilize resources for local initiatives and their sustainability.
- Research, collect, document and share information that supports the welfare of people living with arthritis.
- Promote access to health care, decentralized services, assistive appliances and affordable medication.
- Build the welfare and capacity of people living with arthritis.
- Support interaction and sharing of life experiences among members and those affected.
- Maintain links with persons with disabilities and national and international organisations.
- Build a common voice to advocate for the needs of people living with arthritis.
Project areas in the planning proposal
TAAU’s planning proposal outlines six areas of community-based work. These are priorities for planning, not confirmation that a project is currently funded or underway.
Awareness and member outreach
Community workshops, radio and television discussions, school and church engagement, local-language information, and sharing members’ experiences.
Peer and psychosocial support
Support clubs, counselling and teaching sessions, peer conversations, home visits, and practical guidance for families and caregivers.
Health-care access and advocacy
Work with health partners and decision makers to improve access to specialist care, medicines, rehabilitation, physiotherapy and assistive devices.
Skills and livelihoods
Explore suitable vocational training and apprenticeship opportunities with members, community organisations and instructors.
Stronger coordination
Build the skills of staff and board members, strengthen local and national networks, and support planning and resource mobilisation.
Monitoring and accountability
Track activities and participation, review progress with partners, and document learning and the use of project resources.
Intended outcomes in the proposal
- Greater community awareness and stronger coordination of TAAU activities.
- Improved access to appropriate health services through advocacy and partnerships.
- More peer support and opportunities for members to participate.
- Improved livelihood opportunities through skills development and placement.
Delivery and accountability
The proposal assigns implementation to TAAU and describes project coordination through a management committee, routine activity records, progress reviews and financial monitoring. It also identifies office space and day-to-day coordination as local contributions. These arrangements are presented as proposal content, not a confirmation of current operations.

Challenges to address
Barriers described in TAAU’s background materials include limited awareness, access to trained health workers and services, high costs, long travel distances, limited counselling and peer support, and challenges with daily activities and employment.
